OCEAN HOUSE ARTISAN IN RESIDENCE

MEET & GREET THE MOSAIC ARTISAN / Gallery Show

The Ocean House, a Forbes Triple Five-Star rated resortin Westerly, Rhode Island, announced that the notable Mosaic Artist, Susan Rosano, of Guilford, Vermont, was the February 2019 Artisan in Residence this February 15, 16 and  17. Susan is a mosaic and mural artist that creates unique works of art by incorporating a variety of different materials such as hand-cut stained glass tiles, mirrors, broken jewelry, found objects and glass beads. She fits her designs together like puzzle pieces, creating intricate and beautiful one of a kind pieces of art. Susan creates her artwork from her Guilford, VT studio.

For the past 18 years, she has worked as a Master Teaching Artist on the rosters of the Vermont Arts Council, Arts for Learning Connecticut and Life Time Arts in New York City, creating community art projects with schools, libraries, hospitals, senior centers and other community venues. She is also a credentialed Creative Arts Therapist, Pastoral Counselor, Hypnotist, Health Coach and Reiki Master.

The Ocean House, one of New England’s last grand hotels, reopened it’s doors in June of 2010, after a

$140 million rebuild and restoration. Originally built just after the Civil War, it is facing the ocean, perched high on the bluffs in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. The Artist in Residence program is part of the Ocean House’s commitment to the community and the arts. Over the last eight years, thousands of guests and community members have enjoyed the arts programming at the Ocean House. Susan held multiple talks, classes and workshops during her residency there, all were available to hotel guests and community members.

 MOSAIC FRAMED MIRROR WORKSHOP
Adult students were given a 12”x12” wooden base with a 6”x6” beveled mirror adhered to the center of the base and enough pre-cut mosaic tile, mirror tile and jewelry pieces to cover the area outside the mirror. After a lunch break, grout was applied to finish the piece. Ms. Rosano guided participants on how to create good design and color application for a finished mosaic piece they treasure.

FAMILY MOSAIC WORKSHOP
A mosaic workshop for families included the creation of a mosaic Elf or Fairy House, and a small clothespin elf or fairy to go with the house by using small wooden bird houses, mini mosaic tiles, and other materials. Each family member was able to make their own Fairy or Elf House if they wish.

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL:  HOW ARTISTS MAKE ART
Susan Rosano held a demonstration and gave a talk on the art & craft of mosaic.  She discussed the process of design, color, line and composition.  She had many of her finished pieces on hand for all to see.

A WINE & CHEESE RECEPTION was held after the talk with Mosaic Artisan Susan Rosano
